OUR MISSION

Every child should experience the magic of theater.

Our mission here at Project 1722 is to make theatre accessible to children in hospitals by providing interactive and imaginative bedside theatrical performances. My name is Janelle Mack and I am the founder of Project 1722. I am so glad you have found yourself here, on our page. I do not believe that is by accident, so welcome.

I started this nonprofit because it is my heart's desire that every child is able to experience the magic of theatre, no matter their physical condition or limitations. Many theatrical performances come to the lobbies of hospitals, but what about the children who are unable to leave their rooms?

Fred Rogers said, "When children play, they're using their imaginations to move beyond the bounds of reality. A stick can be a magic wand. A sock can be a puppet. A small child can be a superhero."

Although theatre and laughter can be therapeutic, the aim of Project 1722 is not therapy. Our goal is to give children a chance to escape, play, and imagine... a few moments to just be a kid.

So how do we do it? Each private bedside show is 30 minutes long and is performed by two highly skilled improv actors. These performances are a "choose your own adventure," where the children can be as involved as they want to be in the story.

Thank you for your interest in Project 1722. Would you consider partnering with us to help create the magic?

xo, Janelle
